Elementary
Technology Education
Use
of technology is among the areas most critical to the success
of today’s schools. The importance of using this technology
is realized at Winfield Elementary School. We maintain at least
one computer in each classroom, and some have as many as four.
In addition, we have a lab of 24 Dell computers. Our K-4th grade
students benefit from a rich program of studies facilitated by
the use of multimedia technology. Students also use technology
to enhance their learning in core subject areas. Keyboarding,
word processing, multimedia, Internet, technical reading and supplemental
lessons are stressed in the lab. All students have an opportunity
to come to the computer lab once every six days for a thirty minute
instructional period. Students use Accelerated Reading, Accelerated
Math, and other learning center resources in their classrooms.
Winfield Elementary Technology aids its students and teachers
in becoming skilled and knowledgeable in the application of technology
in the classroom as well as at home. Sufficient technological
resources and training are provided for students and staff to
effectively excel in the 21st century.
The
purpose of the program is to build a community of understanding
among students, faculty, administrators, and parents in our goal
of using technology in the service of education. Every student
has the opportunity to become competent in the use of technology
to do work to solve problems. Students use computers in much the
same ways as adults in the work force use them.
•
To assist in word processing and desktop publishing.
• To help in data organization and analysis.
• To aid in drawing and graphic design tools.
Computers can help gather information quickly. Students conduct
research through the use of interactive encyclopedias, atlases,
and online book and video libraries. On-line access to the Internet
allows students to communicate directly with other students and
teachers and to access databases that were once unavailable. Our
goal at Winfield Elementary is for students to think of technology
as an everyday part of their lives.
